On March 25, in Ho Chi Minh, the Institute of Smart City and Management, in cooperation with B+H, held a webinar on the topic: "A new understanding of the imperative of healthy city design". The webinar is part of the Smart City 2021 event series of the Institute of Smart City and Management, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH).
New challenges in the new era
The 21st century will be one of the greatest periods in human history for all the challenges we face from the incredible leap in technology and urban challenges in a world of rapid urbanization and globalization.
At the webinar, experts have outlined the three most influential factors in creating cities of the future, namely: climate change, planning and technological revolution. These factors force us to have a modern vision to build cities that are resilient and immune to the shocks of global change.
During the speech, Dr. Trinh Tu Anh, Director of the Institute of Smart City and Management, talked about what our future city will look like and what is the model city for the future. To answer this question, the experts together shared their views.
One of the most important factors is "human". Experts say that the principle to construct cities is to meet the basic needs of the residential community, such as accommodation, education, work, mobility,... A livable city, first of all, is a place where human needs and community cohesion can be fulfilled.
Constructive model projects for the future
At this webinar, experts also analyzed the model urban projects for the future, such as the Hamlet Waterfront project, which won the first prize of the Rethinking the Future competition, ACD Awards, 2018.
Besides, one of the most actively discussed projects is Tam Da Smart City. Projects were developed with a vision that focused on three key factors: innovation, sustainability, and resilience.
In the past, the planning areas were often built according to the trend that could only serve a specific purpose; it can be seen that the new point of this project is a complex that fully meets the necessary needs regarding office, accommodation, entertainment and living. Besides, the complexes not only satisfy human needs but also encourage people to change their way of commuting, reduce traffic congestion, create green spaces and improve the quality of life here.
Technology, climate, and human planning have had a substantial impact on our lives, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. It is both a challenge and an opportunity for us to create together friendly cities in particular and a sustainable world in general.
