Four researchers from the Economic and Environmental Partnership for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA) participated in a special session on “Pathways to Inclusive Carbon Transition in Asia: Greening Agriculture and Local Climate Governance” at the 56th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank. The session promoted knowledge-sharing and dialogue among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.

Two researchers from the Environment for Development (EfD) and the Economic and Environmental Partnership for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA) shared their expertise in a capacity-building workshop for local government officials in Dong Nai province, a leading industrial region in Vietnam. Hosted by UEH, where EEPSEA and EfD-Vietnam are headquartered, the training focused on green growth strategies and sustainable development.

EfD Vietnam recently played a crucial role in a policy dialogue on carbon markets in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest economic center. The research team, together with local stakeholders, prepared a policy report and organized a policy dialogue to examine the implications of carbon markets for the city, proposing recommendations to address potential policy challenges.

EfD Vietnam, in collaboration with the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment, organized a training course on circular economy policy. The training aimed to equip local officials from various southern provinces with skills to implement circular economy practices locally.

How has environmental impact accompanied Vietnam’s economic growth? And what lies ahead? These questions were at the core of the Green Growth Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City, co-organized by EfD Vietnam, the World Bank, and UEH. The event, attended by over 50 in-person and online participants, aimed to foster sustainable economic growth in Vietnam through shared insights and collaboration.

On April 2, 2023, UEH leadership participated in Khanh Hoa Province’s 2023 planning and investment promotion conference, also formalizing a cooperation agreement with the provincial People’s Committee for 2023-2028. UEH will partner with the province in providing consulting and reviews for Khanh Hoa's socio-economic programs, policies, and development plans on an annual and five-year basis.

On December 9, 2023, in Nha Trang City, UEH collaborated with the Khanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology to hold the first scientific conference on establishing a National Ocean Technology Research Center. At the conference, delegates focused on analyzing, evaluating, and providing theoretical, political, legal and practical bases in the country and international experience in ocean technology research; contributing and sharing opinions on determining the vision, mission, core values, research areas, main development pillars; financial mechanisms, co-creation platforms and model diagrams, organizational structure of the National Research Center for Ocean Technology. All this was to set the foundational insights for UEH’s project team to finalize a proposal, set to be submitted to the Prime Minister in April 2024.
