From August 28 to August 30, 2024, at Udayana University in Bali, Indonesia, the Joint Asian Conference on Business and Economic Studies (J-ACBES 2024) was held in collaboration with three universities: the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Udayana University, and Universitas Padjadjaran (both in Indonesia). The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) played a major role in receiving and reviewing the conference papers. Notably, this conference is part of UEH’s annual international event series and represents the first time it has been held abroad, reflecting the global trend toward internationalization research and teaching activities
Notable Statistics about J-ACBES 2024
J-ACBES 2024 is a collaborative international conference comprising three prestigious conferences, including the 6th Asian Conference on Business and Economics Studies (ACBES), organized by JABES – UEH; the 8th Global Advanced Research Conference on Management and Business Studies (GARCOMBS), organized by Universitas Padjadjaran; and the 2nd International Conference on Economics and Business Udayana University (ICONICS), organized by Udayana University.
J-ACBES 2024 is supported by four renowned international journals, including: Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC: B, ESCI, ERIM); International Finance (SCOPUS Q2, ABDC: B, SSCI); Evaluation Review (SCOPUS Q2, ABDC: A, SSCI); and Journal of Economics and Development (SCOPUS Q2, ACI).
J-ACBES 2024 received the participation of 5 distinguished speakers who are leading scholars and editors in the fields of economics, business, and management from four countries: the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Among them, 4 keynote speakers delivered their presentations in person, while 1 keynote speaker presented online on topics related to economics and business at the conference.
J-ACBES 2024 attracted 417 articles, with 63% of the studies coming from international scholars. After a peer review and selection process, 264 articles were accepted for presentation at the conference, resulting in an acceptance rate of 63%.
There were over 350 researchers from more than 36 countries participating in J-ACBES 2024. The conference received support from 56 esteemed scientists from 16 universities across 13 countries, who served as session chairs of parallel sessions. Additionally, over 100 students from Udayana University assisted as coordinators, ushers, and service staff.
J-ACBES 2024 is an international joint conference, marking the first effort of bringing UEH’s annual ACBES series organized outside of Vietnam. This event not only enhances and expands international collaboration for UEH and creates additional opportunities for attracting high-quality papers for JABES, but also elevates UEH’s scientific reputation and facilitates academic exchanges in Indonesia for scholars, particularly those from Vietnam.

Day 1: The 8th Global Advanced Research Conference on Management and Business Studies (GARCOMBS)
The event series commenced with the GARCOMBS conference, organized by Padjadjaran University, featuring presentations by 3 keynote speakers.
Professor Subal C. Kumbhakar's presentation on "Productivity and Efficiency: Stochastic Frontier and Structural Panel Models"
Professor Subal C. Kumbhakar is a professor at Binghamton University (USA) and serves as a Co-Editor of Empirical Economics (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC: A, SSCI). His research focuses on applied economics from a microeconomic perspective. In his presentation, supported by Associate Professor Pham Khanh Nam (Dean of College of Economics, Law, and Management - UEH), Professor Subal C. Kumbhakar provided deep insights into the effectiveness of stochastic frontier techniques in analyzing structural panel data models.

Professor Gabriel S. Lee's presentation on "Some Hints on Writing a Research Paper and Presentation Slides"
Professor Gabriel S. Lee is a professor at the University of Regensburg (Germany) and currently serves as a Co-Editor of the English version of JABES – JABES-E (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC: B, ESCI, ERIM). He has made significant contributions to the internationalization of JABES. His primary research focuses on real estate in the context of macroeconomic conditions. In his presentation, supported by Dr. Phan Chung Thuy (Vice Dean of School of Banking – COB (UEH) – a key member of the conference organizing committee), Professor Gabriel S. Lee concentrated on providing essential skills and knowledge for researchers, particularly young researchers attending the conference.

Professor Dong Nguyen, from Durham University in the United Kingdom, is also the Co-Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Educational Management (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC: B, ESCI). Supported by Dr. Kurniawan Saefullah from Padjadjaran University, Indonesia, Professor Nguyen’s presentation provided valuable insights into new research directions for attendees.

Between the keynote presentations were three parallel sessions: 2 parallel sessions from GARCOMBS, featuring 23 topics presented in person, and 1 parallel session from ACBES with 9 topics presented online.
Meet Editors Session
The first day of the conference concluded with the Meet Editors program, featuring representatives from five prestigious journals participating in the event: Professor Nguyen Trong Hoai (Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies - JABES); Professor Michelle Greenwood (Journal of Business Ethics); Associate Professor Dong Nguyen (International Journal of Educational Management); Professor Yudi Azis (Journal of Business and Management); and Dr. P. D'Yan Yaniartha Sukartha (E-Jurnal Akuntansi & Jurnal Ilmiah Akuntansi dan Bisnis).
The Meet Editors session provided essential knowledge about the process of handling a research paper, from submission through editing, processing, and final publication. The Q&A segment of the Meet Editors program was lively and addressed many in-depth questions from young researchers, helping participants gain a clearer understanding of the aspects of publishing a scientific paper.

Day 2: The 6th Asian Conference on Business and Economic Studies (ACBES)
During the opening session of the Joint Asian Conference on Business and Economic Studies – J-ACBES 2024, on the morning of August 29, Professor Su Dinh Thanh, Director of UEH, delivered the opening speech, welcoming delegates from all three universities and all participants. This was followed by speeches from Professor Ir. Ngakan Putu Gede Suardana, Rector of Udayana University, and Professor Rina Indiastuti, Rector of Padjadjaran University.
The representatives from the three universities expressed their great satisfaction with the efforts of the organizing committee in delivering this conference and expressed their hope that future collaborative research activities among the three institutions will be further strengthened.

Next at the conference, Professor Michelle Greenwood from Monash University (Australia), Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Business Ethics (top FT50, SCOPUS Q1, ABDC: A, SSCI), presented a research paper. With coordination support from Dr. Huynh Luu Duc Toan, Professor Michelle Greenwood delivered a detailed presentation on the ethical issues in publishing scientific research.

Professor Rebecca Thornton’s presentation on the topic "Boys and Men Falling Behind: A Research Agenda for Men and Women"
With coordination support from Professor Nguyen Trong Hoai, Editor-in-Chief of JABES, Professor Rebecca Thornton from Baylor University (USA) delivered a passionate presentation, with rich information compiled from various fields and perspectives on the issue of gender asymmetry in today’s society. Her speech highlighted valuable insights and provided potential research directions for scientists in the field of development economics.

Between the keynote presentations were 3 parallel discussion sessions featuring 44 topics presented directly at the conference. In all the sessions, both the authors and attendees worked with great seriousness and a high spirit of openness. During the seminar, the authors received valuable feedback and insights from experts and participants with similar research interests, which will help complete their research and open up new research ideas for the future.

Day 3: International Conference on Economics and Business at Udayana University – ICONICS
Day 3 featured a series of research activities oriented towards community and social engagement organized by Udayana University. This day focused on disseminating reports and community service projects that have been implemented as a tangible contribution to addressing social, economic, and environmental issues.
On this day, community events were organized at various community locations around Bali, Indonesia, such as Sayan Village, in the Gianyar Regency area. Here, five carefully selected teams presented their community service initiatives with coordination from Mr. Anak Agung Ngurah Agung Kresnandra, Chairman of International Community Service.
In addition, parallel sessions featuring research on community issues were presented and discussed to contribute to the sustainable development of Bali, Indonesia.
Conference Networking
The Conference Networking event on the evening of August 29 provided an opportunity for deeper connections among the scientists participating in the seminar. In summarizing the program of the two days of the seminar, Professor Nguyen Dong Phong, Chairman of the UEH University Council, Professor Maman Se Mt, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Padjadjaran University, and Professor Abdul Rahman Kadir, Chairman of the National Council of the Indonesian Association of Economics and Business, expressed their pleasure with the efforts of the three universities in organizing this international-linked seminar. They also expressed their hope that the three universities will continue to strengthen their collaboration in scientific research and international publications in the future.

At the end of the Conference Networking event, Professor Nguyen Trong Hoai, representing the organizing committee of the annual ACBES series, announced the plan for ACBES 2025. ACBES 2025 is expected to continue being a prestigious and high-quality international conference, featuring two esteemed keynote speakers: Professor Arjun Bedi (Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands) and Professor Jessica Pan (National University of Singapore - NUS, Singapore, Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Public Economics).
