Stopping at “Green Fire Station” - Looking back on the Journey of Improving the Environment

On March 30^th - 31^st, 2022, with the aims of celebrating the Month of Youth 2022 and responding to UEH Zero Waste project of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), Student Association - Union of UEH School of Social Sciences organized successfully the program “Green Fire Station” with a desire to spread meaningful messages raising the awareness of students about improving the environment.

Celebrating the Month of Youth 2022 with the topic “Creative Youth”, the Green Fire Station program organized by Student Association - Union of UEH School of Social Sciences took place with a welcome of students. The program was held to target at bringing students a useful and interesting playground to advance a “Zero Waste” lifestyle. Throughout 3 stations of activities, students both earned more environmental knowledge and had opportunities to practice based on garbage classification and recycling activities.

Activity 1 “More” Green Station - Reduce

In this activity, students watched pictures, infographics, with information and knowledge about the environment, 3R Model, and so on, which were illustrated lively and vividly. After that, they respectively answered questions related to the knowledge they had just studied, simultaneously classified garbage to the answer A, B, C representing each sort of garbage. All students showed their interest in earning further environmental knowledge and raising awareness related to the fact of environmental pollution via figures and practicing directly garbage classification.

Activity 2: “Keep” Green Station - Reuse

In activity 2, students can understand more regarding garbage classification ways throughout garbage classification activities with a diverse range of available garbage (already processed) prepared by Board of Organizing. Those activities were supposed to be simple, but completely exciting thanks to regulating participants to stand 2 meters away from the garbage and use a 1-meter-long chopstick to hold and classify the garbage. For that reason, this activity took place excitingly and partially challenged the students.

Activity 3: Green “Creating” Station - Recycle

Before finishing the journey at Green Fire Station, UEH students would experience recycling products from products classified in activity 2 with tools provided by the Board of Organizing. Shortly, UEHers proved their creativity due to their personalized products boldly carrying their true color and also useful for life. Especially, attending activity 3, students are able to recycle and seat with new friends, together creating an enjoyable and amazing atmosphere.

The message: Don’t “ignore” the environment & Embrace the World from participating students

After 2 days of the Green Fire Station 03 meaningful activities, the program received the support of 553 students with an estimate of 300 products. Hopefully, these figures do not stop at this stage but will be spread wider by UEHers with a green lifestyle spirit and garbage classification habit with the 3R Model that they experienced through 3 activities of the program, contributing to creating a Green living community surrounding UEH students.
