International Workshop - "Data Analytics: Current Trends And Prospects"

In order to create opportunities for lectures and staff to share and exchange research, applications, and development opportunities in Data Analytics, on the morning of March 28th, 2022, UEH College of Technology and Design (CTD) held an online International workshop on the topic “Data analytics: current trends and prospects” with the participation of guest speaker Professor Kiyoshi Kobayashi from Kyoto University - one of the leading experts in Data Analytics research in Japan.

Following the success of the workshop in February 2022, UEH College of Technology and Design (CTD) held an online International workshop in March 2022 with the topic “Data analytics: current trends and prospects.” The seminar received the attention, attendance, and comments of lecturers and staff not only in the CTD but also the interest and suggestions from lecturers and staff of other member schools of UEH and Vinh Long Branch.

Speaking at the seminar, Asso. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice President of UEH College of Technology and Design shared: “As the world's demand for big data mining is increasingly expanding, the power does not come from the size, but from how we exploit it. In fact, businesses around the world and in Vietnam are investing heavily in data and gradually succeeding in big data-driven development. Therefore, CTD is in the process of building a program related to the field of Data Analytics and needs the contributions and sharing from experts in the field and from other lecturers and staff.”

The workshop has two main parts: the first part was about the general sharing of Data Analytics as well as the trends and prospects from the guest speakers. In the second part, after listening to the sharing of speakers, the lecturers and staff will contribute to the extensive discussions related to this field and share their views.

In the first part, Dr. Le Thanh Nam of the Institute of Smart City and Management shared his experience and observation in the field of "Urban Computing and Data Analysis" and discussed the background of data-driven businesses. Besides, Dr. Le Thanh Nam commented that the limitations of talent recruiting in the field of data analysis lie in their lack of common understanding of business and English communication skills. For the discussion at this workshop, Dr. Le Thanh Nam suggested that we could consider expanding education and training in data analytics, focusing not only on the external side but also on the moving social trends and on the supply and demand of the society, not only in business but also in other fields.

The guest speaker - Professor Kiyoshi Kobayashi from Kyoto University, Japan had exchanged practical experience when working in the fields of Smart Cities, Business Data Analytics, … Professor shared his ideas in terms of system integration and coordination. He believed that system integration was optimization instead of using multiple systems individually.

And following the workshop, MSc. Tran Ha Quyen - lecturer at the School of Economic Mathematics and Statistics (SEMS) shared their strengths in the field of Data Analysis at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. SEMS had changed and updated the study programs and applications close to reality and society's needs. As a result, there had been many undergraduate students who had held many positions related to Data Analytics and had had success at global corporations operating in Vietnam.

After listening to the sharing of guest speakers, in the second session of the workshop, CTD’s lecturers shared about the opportunities, prospects, and challenges of data analysis at UEH and in the world. In fact, nowadays Data Analysis has been widely applied and developed in fields such as business, urban, infrastructure,... For research and education, science data and databases in multidisciplinary development is also a very important topic where data integration and collaboration is essential.

The International workshop “Data analytics: current trends and prospects” is a program in the series of professional activities of UEH College of Technology and Design in 2022. The workshop brought a lot of valuable information about the field of Data Analytics and received many comments and sharing from the guest speakers, lecturers and staff. And in the near future, CTD will organize other professional activities to discuss more in the issues surrounding the field of Data Analytics.
