On November 18, 2023, the "Announcement Ceremony of the Prime Minister's Decision to Transform University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City" officially took place, marking a new milestone in the history of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and the Vietnamese education. Thereby, UEH is ready for a new journey - pioneering in education and research in all fields, contributing to the sustainable development of society and the country.

The new historical milestone of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh
On October 4, 2023, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1146/QD-TTg to officially transfer the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City into one of the 7 higher education institutions in Vietnam to operate under the model of a "Multidisciplinary University" consistent and integrated with the system of advanced universities in the world.
This is a milestone full of honor and pride in UEH's development journey over the past 48 years. To recognize this important event, on November 18, 2023, UEH solemnly organized the "Announcement Ceremony of the Prime Minister's Decision to Transform University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City"
Overview of the ceremony
The event was honored to have the participation of Mr. Le Thanh Hai - Former Politburo Member, Former Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
Representing leaders and former leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training were Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Member of the Party Committee, Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Teacher of the People, Dr. Dang Huynh Mai - Former Deputy Minister of Education and Training; along with leaders of Departments, Chief of Office of the State Council of Professors, and Specialists of Departments and Agencies of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Representing leaders of ministries and central departments were Dr. Hoang Xuan Hoa - Assistant to the Politburo, Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue; and comrades who are leaders and senior specialists of the Department of Science and Education, the Government Office.
Representing leaders and former leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City were Ms. Nguyen Thi Le - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong - Former Member of the Party Central Committee, Former Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Former Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission, Member of UEH Council; Mr. Nguyen Van Dua - Former Permanent Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee together with leaders of Departments, Committees, standing Party Committees of Ho Chi Minh City Universities and Colleges, standing representatives of Ho Chi Minh City Labor Confederation, standing representatives of the City Youth Union, and the Secretaries of Ho Chi Minh City Student Association, leaders of Thu Duc City and Districts in Ho Chi Minh City.
Representing leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of the Southern provinces and cities were Mr. Le Hong Quang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Can Tho Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Council; Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Lu Quang Ngoi - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Long province; Mr. Nguyen Minh Dung - Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Vinh Long province; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang province; Mr. Dang Minh Thong - Vice Chairman of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial People's Committee, together with representatives of leaders of Departments and Committees of southern localities.
The event also welcomed leaders of partner domestic and international universities and colleges of UEH. In particular, there was a high-level delegation of leaders and former leaders of the National Economics University (NEU), including Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the NEU Council; Prof.Dr. Pham Hong Chuong - Rector; Prof.Dr. Tran Tho Dat - Former Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the NEU Council, Former Rector; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Ha - Former Chairman of NEU Council with lecturers and staff in the Board of Directors and units of NEU.
There were also leaders of Consulates General and diplomatic agencies in Ho Chi Minh City, businesses, associations, press and media agencies, domestic and international partners of UEH.
On behalf of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, there was the participation of: Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of UEH University Council; Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - Director of UEH University; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Xuong - Former Vice Rector of UEH; Teacher of the People, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Van Tai - Former Vice President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Nang - Former Secretary of the Party Committee, Former President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Te - Former Party Secretary, Former Chairman of the UEH Council, Former Vice President of UEH; Teacher of the People, Professor, Dr. Duong Thi Binh Minh - Former Vice President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet - Former Vice President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Dinh - Former Vice President of UEH; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Former Vice President of UEH; Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Former Vice President of UEH, together with current UEH leaders, members of the University Council, Leaders of UEH Units, and UEH Alumni; and the participation of Professors, Associate Professors, lecturers, officials, workers, the UEH Alumni Association network community, and students in Hall A.116 as well as online on UEH's media platforms.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City Council - shared: "48 years of the University of Economics of Ho Chi Minh City is a long journey, with many challenges and great achievements recognized by the Government and the community listed as the title of Hero of Labor; Independence Medal; Labor Medal and many other noble honors. UEH appreciates and thanks the Party, Government, Ministry of Education and Training; The City Party Committee, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committees, and Party Committees of Universities and Colleges for their direction, care, support, and favorable conditions for out operation and development.
The results of the recent journey are the crystallization of the wisdom, efforts, solidarity and love of all leaders, lecturers, officials, employees, workers, students and learners through various periods, the support of UEH's domestic and international partners along with the values over time. On this occasion, on behalf of the UEH leadership, I would like to send our deepest gratitude to generations of former UEH leaders, teachers of many generations, alumni and students who have contributed their enthusiasm, effort, intelligence, etc. to UEH today and in the future. I sincerely acknowledge the efforts, solidarity, and love of all officials, employees, and learners for forming a comprehensive UEH today. A new mission for society and community
The new stature and role have given UEH a new mission and responsibility, which is regarding empowering "Future Generations" with the knowledge, skills, and responsibility to act sustainably and shape a sustainable future through training, research, operations, and governance and connecting the community - spreading knowledge. “Future Generation” includes not only future generations of youth, but all stakeholders who jointly carry out the functions of teaching, research, community, collaboration, and governance in the sense that support the transformation of society toward a sustainable lifestyle.
In the period from now to 2030, UEH will pioneer in building a more comprehensive education, contributing to a better quality of life and connecting more with the community and society with the strategy of a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University internationally renowned with 06 main pillars:
1. Deploying multi-disciplinary training in the fields of economics, business, law, management, design and technology. Being consistent with the requirements for quality education linked to practice, creating conditions for learners to maintain lifelong learning with international integration knowledge and become a generation of global citizens acting for sustainable development.
2. Carrying out research and consulting in the direction of multi-disciplinary integration, collaborating for domestic and international research on new and global content associated with solving local problems and transferring research results to the community with positive values and impacts.
3. Promoting cooperation and sharing of domestic and international resources in training, research, consulting, and university administration activities and jointly exercising responsibility and action for sustainable development.
4. Developing strategies and realizing an effective university governance model, associated with market signals, implementing digital transformation, and developing according to sustainable criteria.
5. Building a UEHer Community including those who have studied, worked, taught, and researched at UEH, pioneering change towards sustainable development, quality life, happiness, and inspirational art.
6. Maintaining a university environment according to international standards along with operating according to a green and environmentally friendly university model connected to the community.
Concurrently, implementing the UEH University brand positioning with 04 values as follows: (1) Learners at UEH are oriented to become global citizens who act for sustainable development; (2) Teaching, research, and consulting with positive results for the community & society; (3) All UEH members work towards sustainable development and artistic inspiration; (4) Together contributing to a sustainable development future.
